How to use epoxy resin adhesive in winter?

The stone epoxy adhesive is a commonly used adhesive with high bonding strength and strong weather resistance, but its performance may be affected in low-temperature environments. This article uses Molibon professional epoxy adhesive as an example to explain practical tips for using epoxy countertop adhesive in winter:

1. Temperature Control

The epoxy structural adhesive becomes viscous and difficult to stir due to the low temperature in winter. Before use, preheat the marble fixing adhesive in a room at 15-25°C until it regains its smooth texture. This temperature range ensures optimal application results.

2. Accurate Mixing Ratio

The marble countertop adhesive is composed of two components: resin and hardener. The low temperature in winter will increase the viscosity of the two components. The mixing ratio must be controlled more accurately during preparation to ensure a good curing effect. It is recommended to use with Molibon’s epoxy dispensing gun of the same ratio, so you don't have to worry about the mixing ratio.

3. Even Mixing

Low temperatures increase the viscosity of epoxy bonding adhesive, so the mixing process of the two part epoxy adhesive may need to be prolonged. We recommend extending the mixing time by 30%-50% until the adhesive has a uniform color and is free of streaks.

4. Substrate Treatment

Before using epoxy glue for countertops, the surface to be bonded needs to be treated. The bonded surface must meet the following requirements:

(1) No water stains or oil stains (it is recommended to wipe with isopropyl alcohol)

(2) Roughness Ra ≤ 3.2μm (metal surfaces can be sandblasted)

(3) Dry for an additional 5-10 minutes in winter

5. Extended Curing Time

The normal curing time needs to be extended by 50%-100%

How to speed up curing? Here are some professional suggestions:

(1) Infrared heating lamp (30cm from the bonding surface)

(2) Constant temperature oven (below 40℃)

(3) Intermittent heating with a heat gun (10 seconds every 30 minutes)

6.Storage tips:

In order to maintain the activity of two component epoxy adhesive, please pay attention to the following storage conditions:

(1) Store in a cool environment at 5-25℃

(2) Seal to prevent moisture after opening

(3) Avoid storage with acidic and alkaline chemicals
